Its been years since I’ve gone thrift shopping, or even went out of my way to go to one. It all changed a week ago when I happened to stop by a garage sale and came out with a cute black shoulder bag for $2. It was such an awesome deal and since then I’ve wanted to find unique items that the masses of fashion can’t easily acquire. The weather was too beautiful to be wasted indoors. So I asked my sister and husband to come along on a mini drive to visit 4 thrift stores in Long Island with a promise that we’ll end up at the beach. With a little bit of research and using this link as a guide, I mapped out our destinations.
A) Junior League thrift store
1395 Old Northern Blvd.
Roslyn, NY 11576
516-621-4890
B) Community thrift shop Inc.
274 New York Avenue
Huntington, NY 11743
C) Goodwill of East Northport
1900 E Jericho Turnpike
East Northport, NY 11731
D) Island Thrift
700 Suffolk Avenue
Brentwood, NY 11717
E) Robert Moses State Park
First stop was at Junior League thrift store. The place itself was small but very well organized. Everything was visible without having to dig through many layers of junk. The prices were also very good and we were happy with our purchases. I would definitely go back there.
The total came out to $45.50. The only item we splurged on was the coach leather bag for $20. My favorites are the beautiful blue screw back earrings and the bright red/orange/olive scarf.
Second stop was at Community thrift shop Inc. It’s a little bigger than the Junior League, but a little more crowded. It felt like all the items were being crammed into one small space. The items aren’t well organized and displayed, but with a little patience you’ll find something. I’ve learned that you have to be quick when your eye catches something. My eyes saw the cutest leather shoulder bag, but my hands weren’t as quick as my sister’s.
This store was cash only. The special that day was blue tags for $1. We got the bag for $1 with the total of $18.47 for all items.

The blue bag I saw first, but my sister grabbed first
Third stop was at Goodwill of East Northport. The stores just get bigger and bigger as we visited them. This store was big and overwhelming at first. Plenty of clothes, but nothing really appealed to me.

The only item I bought at the store for $5.99
The last store we visited was Island thrift. It definitely was the biggest I’ve seen. Plenty of clothes, accessories and household items. The prices weren’t as good, with many items a bit overprized for a thrift store. However they do have color tag specials and that day it was half off of blue tags.
I had to splurge on the charm bracelet for $20.63. It was just too cute to pass. The 3 bags, 2 belts and 2 necklaces totaled $31.31. The total for all the items came out to $51.94.
Since our last store was only 30 minutes from the beach we headed out to Robert Moses State Park. We arrived at around 6pm, which was perfect. Still plenty of sunlight, but cool enough to enjoy the scenery. Mark also took some awesome photos of us and the things we bought. Click here to check out the photos at MarkGuim.com
