NYC Snow Day

On my second day off, I felt like a caged bird. I just had to get out and play in the snow. I Went to the city with Mark and Kate. The sunny skies were deceiving, and made me initially regret my decision to go out.

We got off the bus at 81st and walked across Central Park to Belvedere Castle. I haven’t gone back there since Mark and I got engaged 10/10/08. This time we have Kate to take photos of us.

We didn’t stay outside too long because of the cold. We took a cab to Olive Tree Cafe for some food and warm drinks. The prices were reasonable and food wasn’t bad. My favorite was the Venetian hot Chocolate and the chalk you can write with in each table.

We walked to Barnes and Nobles to get my Europe travel guide. Rick Steve’s you disappoint me. I needed a general Europe guide, the kind that covers the smaller towns. I was looking forward to using his guide book again. He had really good tips on places to eat in Italy. I also like his ratings on tourist sites, which usually gives you an idea on what you must see and what you won’t miss if you don’t see it.

Rick Steves only had Best of Europe, which basically highlights a few of the must see places in Europe. Lonely planet was too big, and just a little too impersonal. I brought Lonely Planet to Italy, and I never used it. I settled on Fodor’s Essential Europe. It covered most of the places I wanted to visit. Hope the tips and recommendations are good. I guess we’ll find out in 3 months.

Next stop was MaximoPino Cafe for Mango and Bacio Gelato. The display was not as grand and mouth watering compared to Italy’s but the gelato was pretty good.
